"Reba"

It is already 7:00pm and I finally get to work with Buddy. After a minute or two I was able to convince him to leave his girlfriend, Reba, and go into the round pen.

I decided to work with his feet today. I used the lead rope to pick up his feet and lead him around a bit by each foot. He did really good.

Time to ride. He let me saddle him up with not much of a problem, so I worked on getting him to stand still when I start to mount.

After a few minutes he finally got it and in the saddle I went. We rode around the pen for about 45 minutes learning how to turn left and right. He is such a good boy. I even got him to trot a few laps in both directions...SMOOOOOOOTH.

Tuesday, May 20th

Picture day.

Buddy was not too excited to be bothered this morning, but I needed to take some pictures.

It ended up being a training session. He was a little nervous with the extra people around. Well we got the pictures taken and I rode him for about an hour.

Later in the evening I decided to work with Buddy again, much better session. We rode around the round pen for an hour or so and he learned to back up.

Thursday, May 22nd

It was still windy today, but I decided to mess with Buddy anyway. I led him into the arena and introduced him to the blue barrels. He didn't seem to care about them too much.

I taught him how to jump the barrels, which he really seemed to like. I also worked at picking up his feet. He is doing really good about his front feet.

Maybe tomorrow we will work on his hind legs. After all that the wind finally slowed down and I saddled him up and rode for a while in the round pen. He did good today.

Friday, May 23rd

Back at it again, we had a very laid back session today. I worked with Buddy on his feet again both front and rear. He did well. He jumped the barrels and crossed the tarp. I also worked at standing behind him. He still gets nervous when he can't see me, but that is to be expected. Later I saddled him up and rode him in the round pen for only 20 minutes because it was getting dark and I hadn't done chores yet.

Saturday, May 24th

Saturday was extremely windy, so I did not get a lot of formal training done. But every chance I got I picked up "Buddy's" feet and brushed him. He likes that. He also does not need to wear a halter anymore. He is easy to catch and enjoys our training sessions.

Sunday, May 25th

Sunday wasn't windy at all. First we worked on tight spaces. I sent him between the barrels and the fence. He was so comfortable he stopped to pose for the camera. We also worked on the tarp again, Now we were off to the trailer. No problem. Buddy is so curios, he wants to check everything out. In no time Buddy was in the trailer on his own. Oh I forgot. He also got spray bottle training today. That was as easy as trailer loading, once he got used to the noise he welcomed the cool mist of water. He even layed down and rolled wile George was leading him around the arena. How comfortable he must feel.

Since everything has went so well I decided to saddle up my mare "Twisted Sister" and introduce the two. Buddy was a little jumpy at first. We think the only time he saw anyone on a horse, they were rounding up the herd. As soon as I grabbed his lead rope he joined up to "Twist" and I ponied him around the arena with ease. I took off Buddy's halter and he still followed me around. I turned and chased him around for a bit and as soon as I rode away he chased me. We played that game for a while. What a fun fun day.
